No better way to appreciate the beauty of the Northern Ontario winter landscape than to be a part of it. And no better way to be a part of it than to travel with LOTN.

    Dave and Kie are experts.

It’s not possible to have a bad experience. Believe me I’ve tried year after year after year, and I always go home with a smile.

This trip was my first trip with Kie and Dave and also my first experience with winter travelling via snowshoe. I don’t even have the words to express how beautiful of an experience this trip was for me – between the amazing group of people it brought together, the perfect balance of hard work and playful moments, and the uniqueness of the wild in the winter months. The group setting makes winter camping a much more enjoyable feat, and it was so encouraging to see everyone come together, naturally collaborating and helping each other out along the way. Even with other participants on trip there was plenty of time for solitude and quiet enjoyment of the wilderness. I would 100% trip with Kie and Dave and absolutely encourage you to do the same if you are on the fence. I felt safe under their leadership and very much appreciated all the knowledge and skills they shared with us. Both of them have infectious smiles and are a true joy to be around!

Thank you to Dave and Kie for organizing another spectacular trip with the attention to detail, professionalism, and organizational excellence that has characterized their approach for 15 years! This will truly be a memory to last a lifetime for me – fantastic!!!. I highly recommend this experience for anyone who has an interest in traditional winter travel in the boreal forest of the Canadian Shield.

This was my first time tripping with Lure of the North, and also my first time embarking on a winter adventure of this magnitude. It was absolutely fabulous. The logistics were very well executed, lots of folks rented some or all of their gear from Dave and Kie, which was all neatly labelled and ready for us on arrival. The food was prepped and staged perfectly for the number of folks in each group, and also accounted for a number of complex allergies and intolerances. The meals were filling and tasty, with tons of snacks and extras provided as well. The days were long and busy, but there was assistance and coaching available for those with less experience winter camping. I learned how to identify appropriate trees for firewood, how to fell them, and then process them. I learned how to set up the winter tents and stoves, how to manage the heat in the tent through the night, how to dry and maintain equipment during both wet and dry cold, how to collect and process river water into potable drinking water for the group, how to pack a toboggan, how to maneuver it across flat open water as well as through challenging forest portage routes, and so much more! The participants ranged in age from 20s to 70s, and each brought so much interesting life experience and character to the group. I went by myself and was a little nervous about not knowing anyone before we started, but I am walking away (just a little stiffly), with a ton of new friends that I look forward to tripping with again in the future! :)

Amazing trip. Kie and dave are so experienced and generously and share it all! The equipment they use and the rentals are great quality and are perfect for the environment. The other participants were a wonderful group, helpful, conscientious and thoughtful. The trip was challenging but the group worked as a team so you never felt on your own or beyond your ability. Truly a memorable and joyful experience.

This was my first trip with LoTN. It will not be my last. The days were long, but rewarding. Admittedly, the work was harder than anticipated, but the satisfaction and connection was also significantly greater than I could have imagined. The group came together through difficult portages, and idyllic lake crossings.
Each evening we were rewarded with great food and laughter until we retired for the night in anticipation of the next day.
The midweek meet up and cook out on our rest day was fantastic.
Kie was a positive and smiling face each and every moment, and guided a trip well beyond expectations.
To echo Doug, No one could ask for a better experience. You will not be disappointed travelling with Lure of the North.

Wow Doug thank you so much for the amazing review. I really enjoyed having you along side us once again. You were an immense help to those less experienced and you are a great team player. We can’t wait for the Pontax with you this coming March! -Kie

The Wolf Lake-Laura Creek trip was my 4th trip with Kie and Dave. The group was split into 2 smaller groups, with each group being led be either Kie or Dave. This was my first experience with Kielyn leading a trip, and it was amazing. Kie was an amazing group leader who leads by encouraging participants to show leadership, which encourages personal development and makes you a better winter tripper. The group I was in was a collection of fine people who made the entire trip the most enjoyable trip I have participated in thus far. The route was beautiful, and the weather was challenging and a great mix of various conditions. Mid way through both groups met up, and had a rest day together with an outdoor cook out, and there was even a massage therapist on trip who did massages for people by the fire!.
No one could ask for a better experience then what was offered here, and I recommend anyone to sign up for a trip asap!
