Why Cotton?
Modern waterproof/ breathable fabrics wick moisture through small pores between the material fibres.  Cotton wicks moisture right through the fibres themselves, making for a much more breathable fabric.  We use a naturally windproof tight-weave canvas, which we pre-shrink to tighten the weave further.   Our anoraks are sized large to protect the large muscles of your thighs, and accommodate lots of layers underneath – even a down jacket for those frigidly cold lunch stops!

Why Fur?
We think a coyote fur ruff is essential for a good anorak hood, so these come standard on all our anoraks.  Fur ruffs are not just for looking good, the fur actually traps warm air inside the hood, creating a comfortable micro climate in front of you face.  Say good bye to your icy balaclava!

Sizing Information
This is a general guideline for the sizing of our anorak. Remember, these are designed to fit loose to accommodate for bulky wool layers underneath.

NOTE: If you do not fit the sizing guideline perfectly- i.e. you are tall and thin or short and on the rounder side, then you may need a custom length adjustment which we can do no problem. So please take a look at the guidelines and contact us if you have specific questions or add it to your order notes.

Let’s Talk Fur

In our humble opinion our ruffs are the best in the business!  A luxurious 4″ wide (skin measurement) and wrapped over the front edge of our deep hoods, these are highly functional and designed to trap a pocket of warm air around your face to minimize the need for face coverings and icy balaclavas.

Our coyote furs are trapped, processed and sourced in Canada.  The fur industry in Canada is a highly regulated and managed by the MNR as a sustainable resource. Traps and trapping rules are regulated to be as humane as possible with many older traps banned from use.  For more information about the fur industry please visit the Fur Council of Canada’s website here.

4 reviews for 10 oz Anorak Kits

Fellow winter walkers. Just a quick note to say I bought the DIY 10 oz Winter Anorak kit and just got it all stitched together. I’m totally impressed with how the kit arrived, the instruction manual and how each piece was pre-cut and pressed to make the sewing much easier. I love my winter anorak. After finishing it, I promptly went for a 2 mile walk in a cold North breeze. The coyote fur was awesome. I could literally hid in the back of the hood. This is the third fourth kit I’ve bought from Lure of the North. They are all top quality materials and instructions. Thank you LOTN for all you do to help each of us become more self reliant and more prepared in the backcountry.

I bought the kit without a fur ruff for my wife for Christmas. It took me about a week of evenings with no real sewing experience to put it together for her. Including some time spent on sewing machine maintenance and learning.
The instructions are well done. I iked the sewing tips and instruction at the beginning, explaining how tension adjustments effect the result and when you might want a different colour thread on the spool vs. the bobbin.
We were winter camping at Algonquin provincial park between xmas and new year’s and she got so many compliments from other campers and she reported that it was comfortable and warm, repelling snow and ice pellets.

My wife got me the anorak kit for Christmas 2016. The kit was pretty easy to put together and the instructions were really easy to follow. This was my first big sewing project and it turned out great! The Anorak is a piece of winter gear that I will never leave behind!

I have completed this kit and from and over-all assessment I gladly give 5 stars. I am 6 feet 4 inches and. My normal coat/jacket size is 3 XL. I never tried this on for size till I was done. It fit perfectly. With a winter jacket underneath and thermal layers I have absolutely no restricted movement. Now, this anorak has been out in the bush twice so far. Once at -35 C in which it kept me free from wind and moisture. The breath ability of the fabric is a definite asset. The other outing was at -3 C. I wore a light fleece jacket underneath and was warm and dry once again.

I would definitely say that some experience with a sewing machine is an asset and for my own ease of interpretation, I went onto the website and re-printed the instruction in colour because I found the black and white tough to see differences in the materials.
