About these Snowshoes:
As traditional wooden snowshoe frames become increasingly hard to come by, we’ve set out to find high-quality used frames and make them available to you. These restored frames span a range of styles, sizes, and ages, many with a vintage look and feel. Both Bearpaw and Huron styles are available, and come with our standard DIY kits.
Refurbished Condition:
There are two main groups of used snowshoes available:
One group was obtained from the Faber factory, where they were sanded and varnished to like-new condition. They are the most recent Faber Bearpaw and Huron models, and are nearly indistinguishable from the last batch of new frames we received from Faber. The Hurons are essentially in perfect condition, whereas the Bearpaws have varying degrees of patchy gray discoloration that was not removed by surficial sanding.
The other group of snowshoes were rescued from the trash bin of a nearby conservation centre, and restored by LOTN. We spent many hours tearing out broken rawhide, sanding down the frames, re-applying varnish. Frames are in great physical shape, with 2 new coats of varnish, though it is clear that they have been previously used as they shows signs of old varnish, etc.
Note: Our DIY snowshoe kits do not include bindings. You can add bindings using the check boxes available on this page. We sell different styles of bindings to accommodate different footwear, and a large variety may be available through local sporting stores. See our Binding Selection Guide here.
