Pinch us, we’re dreaming!

Garrett Conover

Garrett Conover in his element – we can’t wait!

We are pleased as punch to be welcoming the Legendary Maine Guide, co-author of “Snow Walker’s Companion“, and one of our personal role models, Garrett Conover on trip with us this year!  For over three decades Garrett and Alexandra Conover ran North Woods Ways, offering traditional guided canoe and snowshoe trips in Maine, Quebec and Labrador.  Their writing, expeditions and way of life have been an inspiration to Kielyn and I.  I can say without any sense of exaggeration, that we would not be doing what we are doing today if we had not come across the teachings of Garrett and Alexandra.  Garrett will be joining us on our Explorer’s Club Expedition this year: Missinaibi Headwaters (10d).  This should prove to be a very special treat for ourselves and all of this year’s Explorers!

S1E4: Killarney Krossing (8-days)

This trip was our first Explorer’s Club expedition with many adventurous decisions made by the group including portaging all 7 toboggans into Nellie lake with over 80 metres of elevation gain! The scenery was beautiful and the route was tough! We had an adventurous group that helped pave the way for a more consistent terrain choice for years to come.

Fabulous workshop marathon complete!

The past two weeks have been crazy busy for us with 10 of the last 14 days we were running workshop all over central Ontario. Thank you so much for all of our participants  who made this marathon a pleasure!! Click here for some highlight photos of the week.

We are now switching gears as the preparation of our winter gear is complete and it is time to prepare for heading out on the trail!! Much food will be dehydrated, gear will be gathered and the maps are out discussing all options! Click here for our expedition line-up!

S1 E5 – Ishpatina Ridge (8 days)

What an amazing variety of weather we saw on this wonderful March trip this year. We had 5-days that were 27 *C and lower with lots and lots of snow. It was an 8-day trip that felt way too short! The group sprung from all ages and by the end it felt like we were all family. Ishpatina is one of our favourite trip for experiencing a range of terrains and challenges.  Check out more information here.

Canadian Canoe Museum- Wonderful Experience!

What a wonderful workshop we had at the Canadian Canoe Museum this past weekend. There were 12 participants and every one of them turned out a beautiful pair of their very own winter moccasins! Just in time too! We wanted to thank again Beth from the Museum for having us down as we had a lot of fun being a live exhibit right in the museum! We look forward to coming back next year and getting people ready for winter!Â
