Description

If you’re keen to get out for weeks at a time, into the heart of remote wilderness, and cover lots of different country in all manner of conditions, look no further.  This trip is similar in scope and difficulty to our now-classic Missinaibi River expeditions.

This expedition is a beautiful South to North crossing of the vast Temagami wilderness. The feeling we get while walking through this land is full of awe and wonder. With its rich Indigenous history and old-growth forest, the spirit of this land is palpable.

Nastawgan“: Nastawgan is an Anishinabi word, meaning are the ways or the routes for travel through the land of the Temagami district in Northeastern Ontario, just south of the height-of-land. (Credit: Craig MacDonald)

This was a “bucket list” expedition for us back in 2014  completing a N-S crossing of this wilderness region. The route includes big lakes, intimate creeks and steep portages!  Our route connects our previous “Wolf Lake Eco-Explorer” in the south to “Ishpatina Ridge” in the north, with some wild sections of frozen river connecting the two.

Our Personal Opinion:

This is one of our favourite routes that we’ve ever travelled.  From big, wide open lakes, to small ponds, creeks and the Sturgeon River.  Long portages, steep pitches up and around waterfalls, incredible remote country and rich forest.  This trip is awesome!

Note: If you are unfamiliar with “traditional winter camping” as we practice it, and for more general information about all of our guided trips, head to this page.
